Abstract

In this chapter, we review recent work analyzing the workload capacity of information processing in the categorization of multidimensional perceptual stimuli. Inferences based on capacity are typically computed by comparing single targets, which provide a measure of the baseline processing time of the system, to a double target. The single targets are typically assumed to be presented alone without any irrelevant distracting information. Recent work by Little, Eidels, Fifić, and Wang (2015) has derived new predictions using the workload capacity framework when distractor information is present. We demonstrate these new analyses in two published categorization experiments. We also derive a ne..
